Pansexuality

Pansexuality has been discussed more frequently in the past few years. However, there is still confusion about what it is and what it is not.

What is Pansexuality? Pansexuality is sexual, emotional, or romantic attraction towards individuals regardless of gender identity or sex (Society of Sexual Medicine of North America, 2022). This means that an individual may be attracted to some individuals and not others. The pansexual will be attracted to the person without regard to the gender or sex of the individual. A pansexual person is not always attracted to one gender or sex, they are simply attracted to individual people regardless of their gender or sex.

Pansexual individuals are often confused with bisexual even though the terms are different. It is different in the fact that bisexual individuals are attracted to 2 or more genders, the same gender, and another gender. Pansexual individuals assert that gender and sex are not determining factors in their romantic or sexual attraction to others (sexualdiversity.org, 2022).
